The Magaluf resort is very popular around British tourists, specially young people, but caters for both young parties and families.
Located in the municipality of Calvia, it takes about 20 minutes to reach the resort from the airport. While you can do this by bus, these do not pass really often and you may have to get two different ones to reach your destination, so it is suggested to pick up a taxi at arrivals (which will not cost you more than 25 Euro) or to arrange a transfer with either you travel agency or tour operator.
Magaluf mainly consists of hotels, many of them situated by or near the beach or in the neighbouring Palma Nova area, discos, restaurants and bars. There is also a long, big and sandy beach which caters for both families with children or those looking for some sun & fun, offering water sports and other attractions.
To be said: if something has made Magaluf that famous is because is cheap, fun and there's a lot of sun & nightlife.
Accommodation in Magaluf is mainly hotel based but you can also find nice apart-hotels and apartments fro your stay. The most of them are 3 or 4 star and affordable to any budget, some offering "all inclusive" which can be good in those cases that you want to make sure you keep your budget within a limits.
There are many attractions and things to do in Magaluf, such as the Pirates Show, the Western Park (a water park) and the Marineland Dolphins Show to enjoy at Magaluf.
The Mallorca Pirates Adventure Show in Magaluf is well known around the island and among British tourist staying at Magaluf. The show features a history (which we won't tell you) in a custom built theatre next to Aquapark and the Western Park.
The show itself consist on world champion gymnasts, dancers and acrobats featuring a pirates comedy with breathtaking performances. Pretty amazing and funny.
At this moment, they have the nornal show and the "uncut", just for adults. But the first, the original, is suitable for children and they will enjoy it a lot.
You can book your tickets online at Pirates Show Magaluf website.
Just outside the resort, the Western Water Park Magaluf is a family oriented place which combines a large water park with a, probably less familiar, wild-west theme. Sometimes, they also have some shows during the night which have nothing to do with water but fun anyway.
Among the slides (not largest you have seen but good enough), the park has many jacuzzi pools, bars, restaurants and pony and train rides for the children.
Recommended: get a locker so you do not have to carry on all time your things.
More information: Wester Park Magaluf website.
Located in Costa D’en Blanes, quite near to Magaluf, the Marineland Dolphins Show is perfect for a day trip with the children. Many shows and spectacles run during all day at Marineland: dolphins, sea lions, exotics birds and penguins spectacles are available at a different time through all day.
Rated among the best ones of the world the dolphins show is their best attraction, where you will be amazed by the friendliness and intelligence of these animals. If you want, there is also an underwater tunnel which lets you observe how the dolphins do while the show is not running.
Opens: January 30th to November 30th (December closed)
The entrance cost is around 20.50 Euro for adult and 14.50 Euro for children.
More information can be found at: Marineland's website
Both Magaluf and Palma Nova have its own beaches, which are kept clean during all year and are quite near to the hotels and apartments in the areas.
Enough good to relax, but they get pretty busy during high season, so do not expect to chill out by the sun during August. Also, during high season, there will be a lot of young British at the Magaluf beach: it's up to you to decide if it fits you or not.
There is lot to do in Magaluf during the night and to be true is difficult to get bored. Cheap -really cheap- alcohol is served along many bars and discos in Punta Ballena, the street where to most of the nightlife resides.
BCM is known as one the biggest discos in Europe, but true is most enjoyable in Magaluf, with daily Dj sessions, foam parties an open until 06:00 am.
Also, the Poco Loco is well known among British visitors, as well The Geordie Pride, the Boomerang, Bananas Disco or the Daiquiri Palace are.
There many places to go in Magaluf, and the best tip is: go ahead to Punta Ballena and let yourself go.
